2009 was definetly a year i will remember forever. So much happened and i believe it was the year of change. Or the year of travel. Either way it works.
To kick start it off i was lucky enough to be bridesmaid at the amazing wedding of Nicola Azgin Walker. This was the most beautiful wedding i had ever been too and has made me love them so much. The month i spent in Australia preparing for the wedding was also a great opportunity for me.
A month or so passed and it was time to hit the airport to head to San Francisco with the family. We spent 3 days here and what an amazing 3 days they were. We saw plenty of sites. From the Golden Gate Bridge, thousands of sea lions, lots of museums, Pier 39 and tried out plenty of restaurants. My favourite was Bubba Gumps Shrimp Co. This place was awesome, and think it would be so fun to work in. I learnt all about Alcatrez while i was there. Had never heard of it before but iv come away with more knowledge of the 'island in the middle of the bay.' Things that fasinated me here were the roads were all quite steep. The main mode of transportation was this cable car/tram thing which was always over crowded. They were pretty fun to ride on though apart from when you were cold and tired and couldnt even find a seat. Oh well, the experience. They also had big expensive shopping malls and big department stores. My favourite being Old Navy. Pier 39 was also quite cool. Def love to go back one day. The bay, looking out to the golden gate and also looking back up and SF while out on the water were all pretty amazing sites.
Next on the itinerary was Vegas! I was pretty excited to go here, just because its a city in so many movies. When we arrived we were hit with immense heat. We couldnt do anything. Just sat in our rooms and watched tv [no kidding]. We attended shows 'Chris Angel Mindfreak' and 'Le Reve' Both were pretty amazing. Enjoyed Le Reve the best. It was a water show and we were right up near the front so was so cool. Walking down the strip was a pretty cool thing today, especially at nights. Its such a buzz with excitement with so many people. The only thing i didnt like was it was really trashy and there was rubbish [trash] everywhere. My most favourite would have to be the Grand Canyon. Ever since i was young i'v always wanted to go and i got that oppurtunity on day 3. A long drive out but totally worth it. Just seeing desert was pretty crazy. We have nothing like it here in NZ. Ah thinking back is making want to go back. Grand Canyon is the most amazing sites i think i will ever see. Goes for miles and miles, And its just so WOW. Id recommend it to anyone going to Vegas.
Last stop before the 'big adventure' was Los Angeles. And apart from the terrible service and what not at the hotel, it was great. Disneyland, Knotts Berry farm, Universal Studios and Disney California were the theme parks we went too. I didnt have a favourite but i was blown away by seeing the 'Desperate Houseives' and 'War of the Worlds' set at Universal. It was so REAL! Went to the other parks several times as well so that was cool. Even hit Disneyland with Nicole and Skip so that was nice to hang out with them before we headed to camp.
Come to think of it, hardly did any shopping. Was more sightseeing but thats what id prefer. LA was much more spread out to so had to have all transport organised. Also got to see walk of fame which was pretty cool. And seeing the Hollywood sign of course - a must when you go to CA.
All in all, an awesome trip with the family. We were lucky there were no major dramas. Everything ran pretty smoothly and we all had a good time and have hundreds of photos to show for. After the 13 days of travelling around the family all set off for Fiji and i headed to Charlotte, North Carolina where my exciting adventure was about to begin...
