My time at Sunwapta has drawn to a close and i am waiting anxiously for a new door to open. I might add that living at 'Wap was a pretty good start to my Canadian Adventure though.
The people i met, the places i saw and the things i did are all going to be with me for the rest of my life. Early morning starts as a breakfast server got me through each day. Knowing i had the afternoons off and knowing i was earning money was a positive. Also being able to explore the surrounding area was fun enough.
The Sunwapta Falls were only a 3 minute walk down the road, the lower falls a further 2km past that. Big Bend 6km hike, also in that direction all of which i enjoyed spending time running/walking or just hanging out at. Buck, Osprey, and Honeymoon Lakes were also within Walking/Running distance and i spent time at each of these too. Not to forget the Bluff which was a large rock on one of the mountains. I had fallen in love with the mountains for sure.

The people i met were also another factor to my amazing time there. Late night outings to the couch, nights on the town, drinking games, movie watching, learning to dance, late night chats, daily fun and games, laughter and smiles. I must say the Sunwapta crew made me feel pretty welcome into Canada. And i feel like i will keep in touch with alot of them. They all hold a special place in my heart!
It wasnt all work and no play though - i was lucky enough to get out and see some sights in the surrounding area. Visited the Tramway with Elly and Megan - i had a blast. There was a bunch of snow up there and i built my first snowmen. I was an excited child.
Jasper was the nearest town, 55km away and i travelled there at least once a week on the town run, sometimes just to hang out, grab a bite to eat or chillax with other staff. A common occurance was sushi. I'd never really had sushi before then - so was a new experience trying it for the first time. I could say i am semi addicted now. Everytime i see a sushi restaurant i get very excited. I also travelled to Golden within my first week. Checked out the 'small' town which was actually larger then Jasper. Turns out - this is where i have ended up settling for winter.
Sunwapta ended well with the Halloween themed Drivers Party - held for all the bus drivers and tour guides which pass by the resort over the summer. A great night had by all, as we danced and partied away in our crazy costumes.
Following the adventure in Jasper; Michelle, Loren and i bused south to Banff where we spent 5 days hanging out, catching up on sleep, watching movies, shopping and checking out the walking trails. Also took a visit to the Fairmont. It was pretty amazing! Looked like an awesome hotel. I really did enjoy my time here and would love to head back one day!

Calgary was next on the itinerary. An upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite had us all smiling from ear to ear! We had also been dropped off right outside the hotel door - much to our delightment [Had been told earlier we'd have to walk a few blocks]. So day one was fab! Day two consisted of shopping downtown and exploring, also tucked into a nice feed at a great restaurant where Michelle tried curly fries for the first time. Day three was a day spent with all things big and small. Was so great to visit the Calgary Zoo. Plenty of animals there i would not see at the Brooklands Zoo back home. That night we headed to a Calgary Flames ice hockey game. It was fantastic! Couldnt have asked for a better experience =] We were so excited to be at a real match!
As our holiday came to an end, we took a look back on the fun times and began to look ahead at the new adventures which awaited us. For Loren, it was time to head home back to NZ, and for Michelle and i, we were about to start life in Golden, BC.
